The Pius XI Vocal Jazz Night is celebrating its third year, and we are extremely excited to be returning home to the Father Robert V. Carney Performing Arts Center for this annual event. Come and witness the transformation of the space into a cool nightclub and sit ON the stage to enjoy the intimate, cabaret ambiance. Students from the vocal jazz ensemble work with and are accompanied by esteemed local musicians on solo songs for this great night of jazz. The students work hard for several weeks to gain an understanding of the jazz style, dabble in improvisation and work on fine-tuning their ears to new harmonies. They will even treat you to some of their ensemble pieces — which have been sent on to the State WSMA Solo/Ensemble competition this year.
This year’s guest artists include: vocal coach Ellen Winters Reynolds, pianist Sam Steffke, bassist Jon Blessing and internationally renowned jazz vocalist, saxophonist and music director Joe Turano (a 1969 Pius XI alum!). We look forward to providing friends, family and the community with a stellar night of music, snacks, and a cash bar courtesy of Last Call Beverages.
From the World Competitions in Ireland and Scotland to Epcot Center at Disney World, the World Champion Cashel Academy of Irish Dance is known throughout the world for their fast paced, high-stepping dance routines. Join them for their highly-anticipated spring performance!
The Milwaukee Festival Brass will conclude its 38th Season in epic fashion with an all-Star Wars themed concert titled ”May the Fourth Be With You.” The program will be filled with the iconic music of John Williams and other composers who have lent their craft to the Star Wars saga.
“The music of Star Wars is one of the most widely shared cultural experiences we have in our society today,” said Music Director Mark A. Taylor. “No matter which generation you are a member of, or when you were introduced to the Star Wars series, this is music that is instantly recognizable. The sounds transport you back in time to the moment you first experienced each film or program.” The concert will feature music from each of the Star Wars trilogies, as well as music from the more recent streaming programs within the Star Wars canon. Listeners may even be treated to a surprising mash-up of a very familiar Star Wars melody and an iconic big band tune.
Please be our guest as the Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra fills the stage with talented musicians of all ages. Featured works include the Brahms “Hungarian Dances” and the beloved “Rhapsody in Blue” of Gershwin. Bob Syverson, WIO’s principal trumpet, will perform the Handel G Minor Concerto – there will be something for everyone. The remarkable Amazing Grace Chorus will join us in the second half of the program. You will leave this concert refreshed, inspired, and hopeful.
This performance is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.
This performance is SOLD OUT. A waiting list will begin 1 hour prior to curtain at the ticket office for any tickets turned in by patrons who are not using them. Patrons wishing to join the waiting list must come in person to the ticket office.
