DANCING AT LUGHNASA @ Black Box Theater
Nov 4 @ 2:00 pm
DANCING AT LUGHNASA @ Black Box Theater | Milwaukee | Wisconsin | United States

By Brian Friel
Directed by Jordan Hunt

Set in the fictional Irish village of Ballybeg, Ireland, DANCING AT LUGHNASA is a memory play, told from the perspective of the adult narrator, Michael Evans. He recalls one summer he spent at his aunts’ home when he was seven years old. It was the summer of 1936 and young Michael watches as his aunts search for and find the potential for love–only to lose it as the hardships of life begin to cripple them. Brian Friel’s multi award-winning play is a masterpiece, portraying the strength and bravery of five sisters who dance wildly in a final celebration of their lives, before they change forever.

Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman

Based on the film by Roger Corman, Screenplay by Charles Griffith
Originally produced by the WPA Theatre (Kyle Renick, Producing Director)
Originally produced at the Orpheum Theatre, New York City by the WPA Theatre, David Geffen, Cameron Mackintosh and the Shubert Organization
Directed by Catie O’Donnell

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960’s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood! As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination.

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Joshua Pohja

The Bard’s famous comedic romp known for the brilliant war of words between the feisty Beatrice and the staunch bachelor Benedick, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party. War hero Claudio falls in love with Leonato’s daughter, Hero and their marriage is agreed upon. While marriage preparations ensue, a plot is hatched to make old flames and longtime bantering partners Benedick and Beatrice fall in love.

Despite Beatrice’s ire against Benedick and his claims to being a confirmed bachelor, when each overhears that the other is in love with him/her, he/she begins to wonder whether love between them is possible. This charming and spirited exploration of love and marriage, friendship and honor, features some of Shakespeare’s wittiest and most poignant dialogue.
