AMERICAN SPRING @ Black Box Theater
Aug 12 @ 7:00 pm
AMERICAN SPRING @ Black Box Theater | Milwaukee | Wisconsin | United States

Is history ever spent repeating itself? What does it mean to be an American? These are just a couple of questions that this new opera, composed by Pius XI alum Sam Mullooly, attempts to address. The opera is set in April 1865, the final month of the American Civil War, which was a particularly triumphant yet ruinous month in American history. With the words written by Sam’s father, Tom Mullooly, American Spring is a combination of historical retelling, personal drama, and modern political allegory. The premiere of this opera will be performed in our Black Box Theater as a staged reading on August 12th and 13th.

THE MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO @ Black Box Theater
Oct 27 @ 7:00 pm
THE MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO @ Black Box Theater | Milwaukee | Wisconsin | United States

By Christopher Durang
Directed by Jordan Hunt

As the play begins Bette and Boo are being united in matrimony, surrounded by their beaming families. But as the further progress of their marriage is chronicled it becomes increasingly clear that things are not working out quite as hoped for. Conveyed in a series of dazzlingly inventive interconnected scenes, this Obie Award-winning play moves wickedly on through three decades of divorce, alcoholism, madness and fatal illness—all treated with a farcical brilliance which, through author Christopher Durang’s unique talent, mines the unlikely lodes of irony and humor residing in these ostensibly unhappy events.

This production is suggested for adults and young people ages 13 and up.
